You follow accounts not sites (for example I am @amcunningham).
It's not necessary to get any notifications my email. But I still allow notifications to my usual email address of DMs (direct messages).
How to access twitter? I think the best way is to download a desktop application such as tweetdeck. It's easiest to see everything that is happening then. But the main webpage is still manageable.

With regards to Storift, the tool that Nancy White used, the best place to keep this kind of content centrally is a blog. It's not possoble to embed on FB, although you can link to it.

I'd love to answer any other questions for you. Some people prefer the buffet style of consumption. They like to see all the options at once and spend a good portion of their dining experience in transit, sampling, surveying etc. Others such as bloggers, prefer a sustained focal dining experience with fewer social distractions. I don't see the end of blogs since there will always be interest in a broad spectrum of well constructed ideas.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1513616792028141844.post-22005813926633556892011-03-03T13:03:12.800-05:002011-03-03T13:03:12.800-05:00Thanks for the comment. You are absolutely right ...Thanks for the comment. You are absolutely right that the value is socially constructed and contextualized, as is power.

In our economy, the plumber in your example can just say he is not going to fix your pipes. If you have guests coming over in an hour, the value of his knowledge has just increased as has his power over the situation. There is no one there that tell him he HAS to fix your pipes.

On the other hand, if you live in an apartment, there might be a manager there that says he must fix the pipes. If he does not, then the manager will find someone else. Now the power has shifted to the manager.

The nature of universities have been gradually changing in the US over the last 20 years that I have been teaching. A strong centrally controlled administration along with the increased influence of accrediting organizations has taken away the collective self governance and peer review (although I agree that the former system also pushed those out whose ideas did not align with theirs).

The result of this new model is that those deciding on what is relevant or non-relevant ideas now go through two filters: the university and public policy/corporate leaders. This is off-set with social networks that allow those who are "filtered out" a new avenue to broadcast their ideas. However, without the ability to transform those ideas into currency with value to policy makers/corporate leaders, an economic divide will occur (is starting to occur).V Yonkershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11910904367068063554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1513616792028141844.post-78102247908136474952011-03-03T06:02:35.506-05:002011-03-03T06:02:35.506-05:00I don't know Frier's work but I disagree t...I don't know Frier's work but I disagree that the valuation exists in the hands of power. When my pipes are plugged and I need to call a plumber it is the plumber who has the knowledge but it is the customer who pays for that knowledge. I am not sure who has the :power" in this relationship but it is the plumber who has the knowledge and who sets the price.

But that is a small point...

You have identified, although not articulated, that value is contextualized or socially constructed. You knowledge (currency) might have been valuable 7 years ago when the context created value for it. And like all creators of value the "product" (ie knowledge ie currency) needs to evolve to be current with evolving contexts. Therein lies one of the troubles with our education institutions.

Universities are run by collective self governance and peer review that are entrenched in maintaining the current thinking. New or radical thinking is marginalized or leaves the university to be developed. Universities are home to leading thinkers that dig deeper into questions without necessarily getting out in front of them.

Facebook, blackberry, Microsoft were all started by university students who had to leave to get out in front. Even in policy rlevenat areas the greatest advances are made at the community level, sometimes with the help of academic, often with brilliant students or activists (ie Craig Kielburger founding Free the Children while still in public school).

Your knowledge may have greater currency outside of the academy and as one who has the knowledge you also get to apply that in context to create value.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1513616792028141844.post-42070045823839896302011-02-21T17:45:16.453-05:002011-02-21T17:45:16.453-05:00Good question, Andy. Your thoughts, not only lead other visitors like me, to learn much more about the different matters presented in this blog but also, influence very positively to go on exploring about/from the subjects you present in your posts. In that sense, I would like to congratulate you for bringing up, such interesting reflection topic as the last post. First of all, I think you had an extraordinary exemplar gesture by exposure aspects of your own relation whit your writing process related whit your thesis. From the scientific text creation experience, I think you showed a very important aspect about: The difficulty concerning unification knowledge from different parts of the whole work, when personal investigation methods might defer from the direction that is expect from supervisions and from the own “linear” initial ideas text. It makes absolutely sense bring that on discussion and it leads to new questions concerning the nature of knowledge realized in investigation works. Myth be possible that University supervisions, could get a better understanding of the condition work investigations, if they dismissed from formal and burocratic attitudes related in that scientific work processes? I can be wrong about this but anyhow, your post had made me reflect already about this and make me moved on writing again. Thank you for introduced in your text a term that was unknown to me “Partage Knowledge”. I loved the analogy you transport to actuality, from the in temporal Leonardo Da Vinci ideas. We should learn from your observations and sometimes, don’t be too skeptic about old theories but we could came to realize that we aren’t just connect/linked from this digital society… but from ancient times and we could came to think that truth knowledge, can embrace new challenges and used in different new kinds of (re)knowledge.
